Pioneer Day is a hugely significant day in the calendar for everyone here at Laduma, both in Utah and all across the world.

So much so, in fact, that we close all our offices and give staff additional time with their families. They can celebrate, enjoy a day out, or simply spend time at home with their loved ones.

The day itself commemorates the arrival of Brigham Young and the first group of Mormon pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 1847.

And as an award-winning tech consultancy, we have a team of staff who rarely stop thinking about the latest pioneering techniques in the fields of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality.

It’s easy to forget that just ten years ago – that’s a decade in anyone’s language – Facebook was essentially still an emerging technology. So was mobile computing, for that matter.

Where are we now? A different world entirely. Mobile devices dominate our lives and right here in 2018, VR and AR are emerging technologies. In that spirit, our staff in Salt Lake City have had their say on the new pioneers.

Nick Beekhuizen, Production Manager at Laduma, explains: “When we talk about pioneering, one of the things that most often gets forgotten is the fact that education yields adoption.

“When we’re talking about emerging technologies, education yields more adoption, more adoption yields more users, more content creation and things like that.”

James Hay, Producer, says: “For me, one of the pioneering technologies in our industry is how information is disseminated. When I started seven years ago, we had lower bandwidths, we were using Flash.

“Now with the advent of mobile technology, it’s gone from 3G to 4G, LTE, and now we’re looking at 5G, which will allow us to do a better job and deliver a higher resolution of videos and better experiences.”

Kyle Herzog, Lead Developer, adds: “I think that the Oculus Go is the next pioneering movement of VR and AR in that it actually disconnects you from the computer and you can take it anywhere and experience the VR and AR environment anywhere you go.”

Our social media video features even more staff in Salt Lake City, telling how pioneering tech is shaping the world around us.

Pioneer Day is something we rightly celebrate here at Laduma – and yes, we’re always looking for the next generation of pioneers.
