We spoke with our Lead Developer Tommy Pickersgill to find out his thoughts and expectations on the much anticipated Oculus Quest.
What is the Oculus Quest?
The Oculus Quest is the latest VR headset announced by Oculus. It’s stand-alone headset which doesn’t require any wires or any PC to get it up and running.
What does this mean for the industry?
I think the OQ won’t replace the Rift. It will most likely sit alongside and maybe create a new market. I think it’s gonna be the first introduction for many into what we call six degrees of freedom tracking which is provided currently by the Oculus Rift, but it won’t be able to match the rift in terms of graphics, power and quality.
What does this mean for Laduma?
The OQ means for us we can provide richer experiences for a much wider audience. Because of the price tag and because of the portability, there’s going to be a lot more people who can have access to it.
What else do we know about the Oculus Quest?
There is no confirmed release date as of yet, but it will be sometime in the next six months. Tech specifications of the Quest, such as processing power, battery life and storage capacity, are yet to be announced. The most positive info we currently know is that OQ will use USB-C for charging and will house a more efficient focal adjustment. Which for us VR lovers is great news.
