James Milner Foundation

Jurassic World Charity Gala

Challenge

Create a dinosaur-themed invite for the James Milner Foundation Charity Ball in Manchester, using VR to give guests a glimpse of a spectacular evening of entertainment and fundraising. Also use Laduma’s creative and technological expertise to produce a display of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality for hundreds of guests that would enhance an already dazzling event.

Solution

Working closely with James Milner in the run-up to the event, Laduma filmed and edited a VR invite – featuring the LFC footballer himself – that was sent out to every guest. The invite included VR creatures created specially for the event by Laduma, and was set in a jurassic-era world of dinosaurs. We also created a series of dedicated VR films for viewing on the evening, showing many of the company’s groundbreaking immersive experiences. Our creative staff also designed an AR ‘dinosaur hunt’, via a custom-designed app that used a system of AR markers placed throughout the venue. Guests were invited to view and ‘collect’ the dinosaurs by pointing their AR-enabled devices at the markers. At the end of the night, the guest with the highest number of collected AR dinosaurs took home an Apple Watch.

Results

The event, held at EventCity in Manchester, was attended by hundreds of guests from the sporting and entertainment industries. Laduma played a key part in delivering a true multi-media experience that included VR dinosaurs roaming the venue, an AR dinosaur chase, tours of ‘Dinosaurs in the Wild’ and a show-stopping performance from pop star Olly Murs. Laduma was proud to be part of such a spectacular and successful fundraising event.

Over 800 people were given a first-hand look at Laduma’s stunning VR and AR technology. The Laduma VR display was inundated with visitors throughout the evening, as word spread of the incredible immersive experiences on display. Hundreds of guests interacted with the AR dinosaur hunt and our trail of creatures throughout the venue was a highlight of the event.  Laduma was also given access to a number of celebrity interviews, including James Milner and Olly Murs.
